The White Bear pub in Bristol has been given a new lease of life

An iconic Bristol pub has been given a new lease of life after being taken on by a new owner.

The White Bear has had a challenging year after its long-running owners, who were at the helm for more than a decade, decided to call time at the bar at the end of 2018.

Since then a number of people have taken over the reins but then given them up fairly swiftly, meaning the pub has been in a state of flux.

However, its new owner has a wealth of experience in the pub industry and is determined to return the pub to its former glory.

Anthony Hunt is the area manager of The Dundry Inn, The Carpenters Tavern and The Robins, all of which are successful businesses.

The White Bear, in St Michael's Hill, is the 29-year-old's first solo venture and he's looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"I see a lot of potential in both the pub and the area," he said.

"I've reopened the kitchen for the first time since the turn of the year and I really want to give the food offering here a big push.

"We've introduced a Wednesday burger offer with a range of delicious burgers for just £5 and we're going to introduce a steak night on Thursdays too.

"My main aim is to get the locals back in here, as well as students. That's why I'm offering 20 per cent off food and drink for NHS staff.

"I'm really looking forward to it and would like to hear feedback and suggestions from people so we can work together going forward."

Anthony is also going to introduce fortnightly live music with the first live band, The Silverstones, lined up to perform on May 3.
