The whisky distillery with its own Michelin-Starred restaurant just an hour's drive from Glasgow

Fans of Scotland's national spirit looking to enjoy some Michelin-starred fine dining on top of learning how an award-winning Scottish whisky is made could have the answer in a popular Perthshire Distillery.

Lying just over an hour's drive from Glasgow and an hour and a half from Edinburgh, the Glenturret Distillery at Crieff is widely considered to be the oldest working whisky-producing site in Scotland. Not only does it offer a fantastic distillery it's also recently become home to the gorgeous Glenturret Lalique Restaurant.

The new fine dining restaurant was only open for seven months before it was awarded a Michelin star in February of this year. Scottish-born Head Chef Mark Donald was brought in by new owners Lalique to run their eponymous restaurant, the first in-distillery fine dining concept.

And it seems the decision is paying off, with Mark, who has worked at some of the world’s best restaurants including the iconic Noma in Copenhagen and the two-star Michelin Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles, securing them the coveted award.

Glenturret Distillery

With records dating back to 1763, this exciting Perthshire Distillery is considered to be the oldest in Scotland. Recently owned by Edrington it was sold to French Crystal glass specialists Lalique in 2018 who immediately set about investing £12 million in the site to update its tourist offering, production and of course, its dining options.

Open Monday to Sunday from 10am until 6pm (April - October) and Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am until 5 pm (November - March), the distillery offers a traditional tour (£15pp) which takes you through the traditional art of making their popular Single Malt Whisky and includes a tasting.

While at the Trinity Whisky Tour and Tasting (£45pp) you can enjoy the regular tour with an added tasting in the Lalique bar or salon.

Keep an eye out for the cats who happily live at the distillery.

The restaurant, which is currently closed but due to reopen for bookings on the 12th of October is celebrated by the Michelin team for its daily-changing fixed menu which "displays highly skilled, precise, modern European cooking with a Scottish focus".

Having recently also secured four AA rosette status, the restaurant is heavily backed by the Lalique team who have a history of supporting exceptional fine dining establishments, with Michelin-starred establishments in Alsace and Bordeaux already part of their portfolio.

Their exciting £125pp tasting menu includes dishes such as Tattie scone, winter truffle and Baerii platinum caviar; Langoustine, buttermilk, Daurenki Tsar Impérial; Scallop kedgeree; and Sika deer with hay smoked celeriac and sour Quince.

Speaking about their recent Michelin award win, chef Mark Donald said: "I am so proud that Michelin have acknowledged the hard work, creativity and dedication from my team - and everyone at The Glenturret. Our Scottish heritage and surroundings are vital to the heart and soul of the restaurant."
