The Wheel contestant 'speechless' as he wins show's biggest ever jackpot

A contestant on Michael McIntyre 's The Wheel was left 'speechless' after breaking the record for for the most amount of money ever won on the show.

Melfred, a chef from Oxford, answered after the jackpot question correctly on the latest edition of the BBC quiz show. His confident answer didn't even need the help of celebrity Gloria Hunniford.

After pocketing a record £96,000, humble Melfred claimed he would put winnings towards his daughter's 18th birthday celebrations, but with such an epic jackpot he will have money to spare.

The record-breaking win comes just two weeks after another contestant, Helen from Edinburgh, took home £82,000 after answering just one question.

Partnered with TV presenter Gloria Hunniford, who answered the least amount of questions correctly, Melfred was asked: "What is Jupiter’s red spot?"

With the options of crater, moon, sea or storm, Melfred had just 30 seconds to give a correct answer.

The cool chef responded: "Jupiter is a gas planet so it doesn’t have a moon, sea or craters. It’s a storm."

Gloria Hunniford realised she wasn't needed and in a relief replied: "You sound so knowledgeable and I am going to chicken out because there is so much money involved."

Melfred's gamble was a win with host Michael McIntyre revealing he had won the whopping £96,000 jackpot!

It wasn't just Melfred who was ecstatic either, as viewers at home were made up for the Oxford chef. As he appeared on the programme, he revealed he was a former doctor from the Philippines and now worked as a chef in a school which won viewer's hearts even more.

One viewer tweeted: "Just caught up on tonight's #michaelmcintyresthewheel #TheWheel and quite frankly we must all protect Melfred at all costs. He's a gem!"

Another added: "Melfred what a legend, so happy for him."

"Yes I did sob at Melfred on #TheWheel What a wonderful human," tweeted a third.

Others praised Melfred for his excellent trivia knowledge, which saw him cinch the prize money with the jackpot question. One viewer said: "I always learn something new when I watch #TheWheel Well deserved win, Melfred is so precious."

Another agreed, as they tweeted: "I didn't see it as I was walking the dogs but came home to find my wife enthusiastic about #thewheel and Melfred winning especially with such a specialist final question."

The Wheel continues on BBC One at 6.15pm on Saturday 26th November.
