The rainy season officially began on Saturday the Meteorological Department announced on Monday, and warned of scarce rainfall to come.

A southerly wind blew a blanket of moisture across the country on Saturday, bringing downpours in many areas and marking the start of the wet season. the weather office said.

Thailand will have rain until mid-October, except in the southern region where the rainy season will continue throughout December.

However, the department warned of low and sporadic rainfall from mid-June to the end of July. This could pose problems for farmers relying on rain for their crops.

For this week, heavy rain is forecast in the northern, western and eastern regions until Wednesday, and in the northeastern, central and eastern provinces from Thursday to Sunday.
