A West End supermarket can today be exposed as the dirtiest shop in Newcastle.
Najeb, on Westgate Road, has been awarded a zero-star food hygiene score.
And it is so filthy, Newcastle City Council has refused to release pictures taken inside during the October 3 inspection.
That's because the council is currently exploring the possibility of fresh action against the store.
We approached the store over the inspection, where inspectors slammed the "bad" standard of food hygiene and admitted they had "little" confidence in management.
Staff claimed there wasn't a manager in the shop, and that they knew noting about the report. They then hung up.
ChronicleLive requested a copy of the full report, including pictures, from the council under the Freedom of Information Act.
However, the authority refused, stating: "We have taken the view that it would be inappropriate in relation to a case where an investigation into any related allegations are ongoing to release the details of any actions that may have been taken."
The shop is currently one of just two food establishments in the city to hold a zero-star rating. These are the takeaways not up to scratch.
Last month, we revealed how grease-stained Cowgate takeaway Shalimar had been handed the other.
Inspectors found meat stored in uncovered buckets while the wash basin didn't even have soap.
Management later revealed staff had been sacked following the inspecton.
