The West Ham wonderkid nominated for the 2019 Golden Boy award

West Ham have a player in the 80-name shortlist for the Golden Boy award, recognising the best talents in world football.

Previous winners of the honour include Rafael van der Vaart, Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Sergio Aguero, Isco, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling, Anthony Martial and Kylian Mbappe.

Last year, Ajax captain Matthijs De Ligt took the trophy home and the Hammers have one hopeful in the mix for 2019.

Declan Rice and Grady Diangana may be the two obvious names on the lips of fans expecting one of their homegrown stars from the first team to make the cut but it is another player in the running.

Ex-Benfica forward Mesaque Dju only joined the Irons in January 2019 but the judges behind the Tuttosport award have put him forward as a contender for the Golden Boy award 2019.

Sebastien Haller profile

A European champion with Portugal at Under-16 and Under-18 level, he was also a Youth League runner up in 2017 as Red Bull Salzburg took the title.

Dju prodominently plays out wide and is strong on both feet. Last season he made six Premier League 2 appearances for West Ham finding the back of the net once.

Ex-West Ham forward Domingos Quina has also been included on the Golden Boy shortlist.

He left the London Stadium to join Watford last summer and made his debut for the Hornets in August 2018.
