The West Ham transfer warning that will worry Nottingham Forest

Matty Cash addressed the transfer interest linking him with a move away from Nottingham Forest yesterday.

The right-back was reportedly interesting Italian giants AC Milan as well as Premier League side West Ham United.

Cash, who admitted his agent had spoken to him about the January interest, has enjoyed a fine season under Sabri Lamouchi.

He has scored three times and registered four assists in 36 Championship appearances for fifth-placed Forest.

Cash might well be the subject of interest from West Ham again, with London Stadium boss David Moyes saying in January he wants to bring up-and-coming players to East London.

Forest might well want to heed that warning and in signing him down to a new deal back in September secured their asset for another three years.

They will almost certainly be braced for incoming offers for Cash, though.

“I want to stop the idea that what we’re doing is just buying someone who will fill the gap,” Moyes said back in January.

“I want it to be the vision for the club that we’re looking to bring in young, attractive, hungry players who are saying ‘we’re going to make West Ham better’.

“I know about footballers and I think players who are hungry and players who are trying to climb that ladder, trying to be Premier League footballers, we have to have a mix of that.

“What you’ll find is that they’re not all necessarily ready to play immediately.

"That’s my biggest thing.

"(At Everton) people like Leighton Baines, Joleon Lescott, Phil Jagielka needed six months, but once they got up to the speed…

“What we’ve been trying to do over the years is buy someone who’s ready-made and can come straight in.

"I’m saying stop - let’s go for people who we think are young, future internationals.”
