The West Ham player who has returned to training in China giving Manuel Pellegrini a boost

Manuel Pellegrini will have been pleased to see Aaron Cresswell return to first team training in China on Sunday and Monday having missed the win over Altach last week as a precaution.

The Hammers left back wasn't involved for the 3-2 win against SCR Altach in Austria last week as he was left out as a precaution, with Ben Johnson playing 65 minutes of the game in his place.

Sam Byram, who has not joined up with the squad for the Chinese leg of pre-season, played the remaining 25 minutes of the win at the CashPoint Arena.

Johnson and Cresswell both travelled to China and the senior of their two players has been training since the squad arrived in Nanjing on Sunday afternoon, with a session late yesterday evening and a more intense one of Monday morning at the Nanjing Olympic Youth Park.

Pellegrini has just Creswell as his recognised left back in the squad as Arthur Masuaku is still enjoying a break after his international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations with DR Congo came to an end ten days ago.

Johnson made his senior debut for the Hammers against Manchester City, who West Ham face in the Premier League Asia Trophy on Wednesday in Nanjing, at left back last season and impressed up against Riyad Mahrez playing at left back.

He is usually a right back for the U23s but has demonstrated he is equally as comfortable on the left and penned a long-term contract extension in east London last season.

Cresswell is now hoping to prove his fitness in time for the game against City in Nanjing on Wednesday, though Pep Guardiola's side have yet to arrive in the Far East thanks to an administrative issue meaning their plane has been grounded in Manchester for the past two days.

Should they fly out on Monday, it will give them around 24 hours to prepare for the game against the Hammers at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on Wednesday afternoon.
