The Welsh village with a 'golden beach' that has become a smash hit with English visitors

Wales has dozens of beautiful beaches which are cherished by those who live here and admired by endless tourists every year. But one beach, in particular, is a smash hit with people in Manchester.

The beach near Llanbedrog , near to Abersoch on Pen Llŷn is 128 miles from the northern city, but has been named as the perfect spot for a family day out by the Manchester Evening News.

Located on the Llyn peninsula, Llanbedrog is a small village which overlooks Cardigan Bay. With a population of just over 1,000 people, it’s the news organisation says it is a "place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life".

To access it, as regular visitors will know, you must descend through a woodland area. Once you arrive at your destination you’ll be greeted by a mile-long stretch of golden sand, and crystal-clear shallow waters.

Visitors can also enjoy stunning views across Cardigan Bay. The MEN named the spot as the perfect spot for all the family - and for a bonus dogs are welcome. It’s also popular for water sports like paddleboarding and kayaking.

One of the most charming features of Llanbedrog beach is its row of traditional multi-coloured beach huts which line up against the shore. You’ll only see the huts during the summer months though - they’re removed over winter as a precaution against storms and high tides.

The huts are a relic from a time when the beach was a popular Victorian tourist destination. In 1890 a tramway was built connecting Llanbedrog to nearby Pwllheli, opening the beach up to visitors.

Although the tramway has gone, the beach huts remain and can be booked each summer - but you have to be quick as they’re popular. Today the beach is operated by the National Trust and there is a large car park for visitors to use, which costs £5.

After a relaxing on the sand or having a swim in the sea, you can head to the Aqua Beach Bar Restaurant to grab a bite to eat and admire the views. The bar has an outside seating area which creates the ultimate ‘holiday’ feeling.

Another must-see while you’re in Llanbedrog is the Plas Glyn-y-Weddw. The gothic-style mansion was built in 1857 and is one of Wales’ oldest art venues.

The exhibition changes every six to eight weeks, and there’s a tea room on site. Throughout the year it also holds workshops, concerts and other activities.

From Plas Glyn-y-Weddw you can access the Llanbedrog coastal circular walk which takes you up the Mynydd Tir-y-Cwmwd headland. The 2.3 mile walk has stunning views over the bay - keep an eye out for the Tin Man sculpture too.
