The Welsh teenage talent ranked among the world's best youngsters and likened to All Blacks' elusive playmaker

He's one of Welsh rugby's uncut gems sparkling across the border in England.

And it's fair to say the meteoric rise of 19-year-old Ioan Lloyd at Bristol Bears has only been usurped by the try-scoring exploits of fellow Cardiff-born teen talent Louis Rees-Zammit at west country rivals Gloucester.

While Rees-Zammit has been commanding plenty of column inches during his first season with the Gallagher Premiership giants, Lloyd in his debut campaign down the M5 at Ashton Gate has received a little less fanfare.

But the outside-half/full-back has come to the attention of leading French rugby publication Midi Olympique, who have Wales Under-20s international Lloyd marked down as one of their five international star backs of tomorrow.

Their website RugbyRama have published their five 'golden nuggets' aged 22 or under to light up the Test arena in the future and Lloyd finds himself lining up alongside South Africa's rising star Aphelele Fassi, New Zealand and Crusaders tyro Will Jordan, Argentina's Santiago Carreras and Englishman Freddie Steward as the ones to watch.

And so impressed they are with Lloyd, Midi Olympique are likening the former Clifton College student to All Blacks star Damian McKenzie.

They wrote about Lloyd: "If we were to compare Bristol's Welsh back to another famous player, the All Black Damian McKenzie would surely come first.

"Like the star of the Chiefs, Ioan Lloyd has a game based on avoidance, speed and a very developed offensive flair.

"But he also has the technical qualities and the vision necessary to occupy the position of outside-half, although he keeps number 15 on the back in the youth teams.

"This versatility has made Ioan Lloyd one of the most used players on the Bristol substitutes' bench, at only 19 years old.

"Can replace either No.10 Callum Sheedy or All Black Charles Piutau at full-back.

"Very serious playing time which ended with tries in all competitions, including one for his very first Premiership match.

"Already an Under-20 international with Wales, we've not finished talking about Ioan Lloyd yet."
