The Welsh seaside town named one of the most beautiful in the UK

Llandudno has been named Wales' most beautiful coastal town to visit, according to new research on seaside areas.

The resort in Conwy is among a number of destinations highlighted by data specialists at SlotsUp, who looked into areas offering a "winning formula for a relaxing getaway."

Researchers ranked a seed list of popular UK coastal towns on six different factors including the amount of Instagram hashtags, the number of walking trails and whether it was an Area of Natural Beauty (AONB), North Wales Live reports.

According to the research, Llandudno is the seventh most beautiful coastal town in the UK with a score of 21.6 - placing behind the likes of Bournemouth and St. Ives.

These two locations, in Dorset and Cornwall, took the top spot and second place respectively. They both have more hashtags and beaches than Llandudno. Additionally, St. Ives is an AONB - status which Llandudno doesn't hold.

The most beautiful coastal towns in the UK, according to the study by researchers at SlotsUp are as follows:

  1. Bournemouth, Dorset - score 36.1 / 60
  2. St Ives, Cornwall - 29.4
  3. Hastings, East Sussex - 29.1
  4. Padstow, Cornwall - 27.4
  5. Ilfracombe, Devon - 26
  6. Salcombe, Devon- 25.4
  7. Llandudno, Conwy - 21.6
  8. Southwold, Suffolk - 18.3
  9. Margate, Kent - 15.8
  10. Filey, North Yorkshire - 14.9

Llandudno is the only resort on the list that isn't located in England, which makes it the most beautiful coastal town in Wales, according to the research conducted by SlotsUp.

It scored highly for its 10 walking trails, two beaches and eight museums and galleries. There's more than 300,000 tagged posts about it on Instagram and a National Park close by.

The research comes after Llandudno was named one of the cheapest resorts for fish and chips earlier this month.

It came seventh in the UK, in a study by Premier Inn, with an average price of £7.46 for a large portion - making it the cheapest location in North Wales for the seaside staple.
