The Welsh jewellery designer whose £62 earrings were worn by Duchess of Cambridge on her trip to Cardiff

An Welsh independent jeweller was delighted to see the Duchess of Cambridge wear a pair of her earrings for the second time in four months.

Kate wore a pair of Hayley Jones' £62 hooped earrings during a visit to Barry Island in August, and she had them on again for a festive visit to Cardiff on Tuesday.

The royal chose the Alia Hoops from Hayley's collection which are demi-fine and coated in 2.5 microns of 18 karat yellow gold for a second outing.

It all comes only three years after Hayley started her jewellery business from the kitchen table of her home in Caerphilly three years ago, when she started selling her jewellery on Etsy.

Since the outing in August, interest in Hayley's designs have gone through the roof and she has had to draft her mum, Dawn, and sister, Kelly, in to help keep up with all the orders.

"I couldn't believe it when the Duchess' personal assistant confirmed in August that she would be wearing one of my earrings during the visit in August," says Hayley, a fashion and marketing graduate who now works from a small studio.

"It has been so amazing seeing The Duchess Of Cambridge wearing my earrings, I still have to pinch myself as I still cannot quite believe it! It has helped my small business so much, and I am so thankful.

"My aim is to make affordable jewellery that lasts and this has been such a boost for a small business like mine.

"I have had to get my mum and sister to help out with the orders because there have been so many, and they have been from all over the world. I have also had to get my dad, Neil, helping out.

"A lot are from America and there are other international orders. It has been amazing and I am so thankful."

British reality stars and models including Emma Louise Connelly, Made In Chelsea's Sophie Habbo and TOWIE's Chloe Lewis have also worn jewellery from the collection.

William and Kate were in Wales on Tuesday as part of a nationwide tour to thank frontline workers and speak to people who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. You can follow live coverage of the trip here.

Companies often see lifts in sales when when members of the royal family wear their goods.

Meghan Markle sparked a surge in sales for a Welsh denim firm after she wore a pair of their jeans on her first official visit to Wales in 2018. The Duchess of Sussex wore a pair of the £230 black Hiut jeans on a visit to Cardiff.
