The Welsh gardens that top the list of the best in the UK to visit

While you may automatically think of our amazing coastline and stunning mountains when you think of Wales, we have some beautiful gardens too - and two are named among the top 30 British gardens to visit, with one topping the list.

Using travel reviews and ratings from travel website TripAdvisor, the Indian Fire Bowl Company complied the list. And coming first with a rating of five out of five stars and over 2,000 reviews is Bodnant Garden, near Conwy.

This National Trust site is home to 80 acres of nature from wildflowers to riverside scenes and manicured lawns making it the perfect garden for all seasons.

Bodnant Garden has a range of rare, old, and exotic trees and rose terraces that stay in flower from June all the way to October.

With a lake, pool, and woods and meadows, there is a lot to see in this garden that is nestled in the Conwy Valley and it was Henry Davis Pochin who brought the estate in 1874 and transformed the gardens into what they are today.

On-site there is a tea room and Bodnant Garden is open daily from 9:30am to 5pm with the last entry at 4pm and you do not need to book.

Tickets are £14 for adults, £7 for children, and £35 or £21 for a family, depending on the family size. You can find out more here.

Coming in 19th place is The National Botanic Garden of Wales in Carmarthenshire where you can explore the Great Glasshouse which is the world's largest single-span glasshouse, a Tropical House, and over 400 acres of meadows and waterfalls.

The National Botanic Garden of Wales has also made the top 30 gardens in the UK (Sunday Mirror)

This huge site is also a centre for botanical research and conservation as well as holding many exhibitions and activity days.

Recently the Regency Restoration Project which includes two new lakes and a waterfall in the wooded parkland has been shortlisted for an international award, the 2021 Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) People’s Choice Award.

Until Sunday, October 31 the garden opening times are from 10am to 6pm and the last entry is an hour before the garden closes.

You do not need to book, however you can pre-book online, and tickets cost £12.50 for adults, £6 for children with under-fives going free, and between £24 and £36 for families depending on the family size.

You can book your tickets and find out more information here.
