The Welsh chef from one of Cardiff's best food pubs on MasterChef the Professionals this week

A Cardiff chef is set to appear on MasterChef: The Professionals this week.

Rhodri Davies, a sous chef at the Michelin-listed Heathcock pub in Llandaff, will make his debut on the BBC One hit cookery contest this Thursday, November 11.

Rhodri is set to cook in the second heat of the contest where he’ll be up against three other professional chefs who'll be put through their paces by judges Monica Galetti, Marcus Wareing and Gregg Wallace.

Since opening in October 2018, The Heathcock has become one of the most highly regarded restaurants in Cardiff, serving a menu of technically-accomplished seasonal pub food including pheasant kiev, roast haunch of venison and baked Alaska.

The Heathock is a sister pub to the Hare in Hounds in Aberthin, which currently holds the title of Wales Pub & Bar of the Year 2021 .

As second in command in the kitchen at the Heathcock, Rhodri is an integral part of the team working under head chef Dave Killick.

Previously posting about Rhodri on Instagram, the Heathcock said: “Sous chef Rhod always brings plenty of passion to the Heathcock kitchen… Working closely alongside head chef Dave, his creativity, talent, energy and enthusiasm shine through in each and every dish he cooks.”

The four chefs appearing on Thursday’s episode will face two challenges, after which two will progress through to the quarter-finals and two will be sent home.

First, in the skills test, two chefs will be tasked by Marcus to cook pan-fried scallops, cauliflower velouté, croutons and a curry butter. The remaining two will be challenged by Monica to cook a chocolate crème pâtissière-filled swiss roll served with a raspberry sauce.

The chefs will then have the opportunity to demonstrate their style of cooking as they have to prepare their own signature main course and dessert. This provides an opportunity for the chefs to compensate for any errors they made during the skills test.

Rhodri will appear on MasterChef: The Professionals on Thursday, November 11 at 9pm on BBC One Wales.
