The weirdest things you can bet on with Paddy Power and how the odds are decided

Paddy Power takes bets on a wide variety of sports events – but it also takes them on all sorts of stuff, including aliens being found by the end of the year, seagulls taking over the world and KFC having another chicken shortage.

And the Irish bookmaker told us that there’s loads of “weird and wonderful” wagers to do with Trump and Brexit at the moment.

You can place a bet on what the Government might ration first after Brexit, for example, and Britain running out of contraceptives.

You can also bet on Trump dying his hair red, white and blue, or surgically enhancing his hands.

But how exactly does Paddy Power decide what people can and can’t bet on?

Paddy Power’s Amy Jones told us: “Usually, our special bets react to what’s going on in the news at the time - both reacting to and setting the news agenda.

“However, we will often be asked for odds from the public, punters on social media, journalists and more.

The bookies has, for instance, previously took bets on who bit Beyoncé at a party last year, where Prince Harry will go on his stag do, and even if the moon is made out of cheese.

Amy continued: “Our traders will then asses a load of factors; how likely it is to happen in our lifetime, how likely it is against other events, whether the outcome of the bet could already be known, etcetera before providing odds.

“In the case of, say, someone wanting to know if their child will ever play for Bristol City or captain England - we’ll ask for as much information as possible.

“Then, we’ll provide odds which are available to bet on either in our stores or online.”
