The weird reaction of Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville explained after Liverpool beat Southampton

Football fans were left confused last night as Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville appeared to walk away from fellow Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates after Liverpool's win over Southampton.

The pair were leaving to interview the managers in the tunnel at St Mary's Stadium but strangely took off from the set after being asked a question by Cates.

As they walked away Reds legend Carragher and former Manchester United defender Neville continued their conversation, answering the question about the important of Liverpool's win, as they made their way around the pitch while Cates stood alone in the background.

The planned sequence was branded "bizarre" and left fans baffled.

One stated "this is the strangest thing I've ever seen" while another noted how "they fully took off".

Viewers also questioned "why did Sky let Alan Partridge do the directing?" with another saying "Carragher and Neville casually walking away from Kelly Cates was so bizarre".

Cates herself tweeted to explain what was going on in reply to sports presenter and retired British sprinter Jeanette Kwakye and you can see that, including a clip of the incident, below.

The incident came after the trio had watched Liverpool come from behind to earn a vital 3-1 win over the Saints.

They proceeded to interview both managers, with Klopp praising the fighting spirit of his side after the game.

Another thing that was remarkable about this whole event was the interviews and the speed of which Carragher and Neville managed to get off the pitch and down the tunnel to start the chat with Klopp and Hasenhuttl.
