The weird and wonderful Christmas Eve traditions shared by Scots

With Christmas Eve just over three weeks away, we are well and truly within touching distance from the festive season.

Lots of Scots will be looking forward to spending special time with loved ones, especially after last year saw limits on numbers and celebrations amid Covid restrictions.

Fortunately, this year things should feel a little but more normal.

To get into the festive spirit we asked Daily Record readers on Facebook if they have any Christmas Eve traditions and the answers certainly did no disappoint.

Here are a few we thought you might find wonderful and a couple you might find a bit weird...

Some were really special, with families following the same routine for years and years.

For example, Chelsea Dornan shared her family's sweet and longstanding tradition: " My whole family go out every year and buy a ‘special bauble’ each year we have a competition to see who’s we think is the best.

"We have done this since I was little."

Food was the theme of quite a few Christmas Eve routines with many ordering a takeaway on the 24th every year.

Lisa Jane explained her takeaway tradition, followed with a film then some stress.

She commented: "Order a Chinese take away on Christmas eve and watch a movie in our matching pyjamas.

"Then bed for 10pm so mummy can freak out, roar at daddy and the cat for not helping!"

Creating wonderful memories with your loved ones is what Christmas is all about, isn't it?

Chloe Fallon and her family make sure to capture those special moments each Christmas Eve.

She said:" Every year since my daughter I always book a Christmas photo shoot", just lovely!

Making memories with family is also the theme of Audrey Peebles' tradition with her loved one.

"We do Christmas baking, with 3 generations involved with Granny co-ordinating, kids and grandkids", she commented.

However, some Christmas Eve 'norms' were a little more unusual...

Hannah GM Moore described her tradition: "I get a bottle of tomato sauce from my mum every single year".

I suppose everybody loves tomato ketchup and you might need to for your massive Christmas dinner the next day!
