Week in wildlife: Osprey sees 50th chick fly the nest
A screen grab from the Scottish Wildlife Trust webcam of a chick, known as Blue YZ, taking its maiden flight on Wednesday 24 July 2013. The Scottish Wildlife Trust said 27-year-old mother Lady is the oldest osprey it knows of in the UK and it believes she has set a record with the number of chicks that have successfully flown from her nest. Park ranger Emma Rawling said: 'Our young osprey chick took her maiden flight just after 10am yesterday, watched by people both in the visitor centre and all over the world via our live webcam' Photograph: Scottish Wildlife Trust/PA
Week in wildlife: tiny tree frog

Week in wildlife: 19-year-old wildlife photographer Bertie Gregory creates homemade 'bearbox'
It's an encounter relived every summer through the ages: thousand of salmon swimming furiously upstream towards their spawning grounds – and the brown bear lying in wait to swat them out of the water and devour them. Only now, the meeting between fish and bear is captured on nine HD cameras streaming live video from Brooks river in Alaska's Katmai national park Photograph: Bertie Gregory /Rex Features
Week in wildlife: Seabird figures
Conservationists have accused Scottish ministers of overlooking highly threatened seabird populations, such as kittiwakes, as part of plans to create about 30 new marine protected areas, stretching from coastal waters to the Atlantic ocean west of Rockall Photograph: Andy Hay/rspb-images.com/PA
Week in wildlife: Mountain Fire In Southern California Grows In Strength
A deer walks through the charred landscape looking for food after a mountain fire raced through the area on 18 July 2013 near Idyllwild, California. The massive wildfire in Riverside county has grown to 23,000 acres and is advancing towards the mountain town of Idyllwild on one front and city of Palm Springs on the other front destroying several homes and forcing the evacuation of 6,000 people Photograph: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images
Week in wildlife: seized shipment of 24 rhino horns in Prague
The largest-ever seizure of smuggled rhino horn in Europe shows the "stark reality" of the threat facing rhinoceroses, conservationists have warned. Wildlife campaigners said the latest seizure of 24 white rhino horns by the Czech Republic provided proof that South Africa's bid to begin a legal trade in the highly sought after product would be dangerous for Africa's rhinos Photograph: David W Cerny/Reuters
Week in wildlife: rehabilitated manatees
Members of the SeaWorld Orlando Animal Rescue team prepare to return one of four female manatees ranging in size from 400 to 775 pounds, to the waters of Eddy Creek at the Canaveral National Seashore park in Titusville, Florida. All four rehabilitated animals have been medically cleared for their return to their natural habitat by government agencies following months of rehabilitation Photograph: John Raoux/AP

Week in wildlife: Emperor shrimp catches a ride on a sea slug
An emperor shrimp catches a ride on a sea slug (Chromodoris leopardus nudibranch), Ambon, Indonesia. During wildlife photographer Ed Brown's latest diving trip he captured the unusual sight of an emperor shrimp hitching a ride on a sea slug. The stunning pictures taken off Ambon Island in Indonesia, show off the kaleidoscopic colours of the sea slug, also known as a nudibranch, while it gives a ride to an emperor shrimp, which forages the sand bottom of the ocean. Many animals have symbiotic relationships, where a 'hitchhiker' finds a host, often for a 'free ride'. In this case the shrimp benefits while the nudibranch gains no benefit but remains unharmed by the association. Ed often photographs underwater marine life on his biannual diving trips; however this is the first time he has ever captured this kind of symbiotic relationship Photograph: Ed Brown/Rex Features
