The Week In Music

Pete Doherty
Pete Doherty wrote an open letter to his ex-girlfriend Kate Moss via the pages of the Daily Mirror. The gist was that he isn’t doing too well without her and that he wants her back. Just in case divulging his deepest feelings about Moss via the pages of a national newspaper didn’t prompt the reunion he was hoping for, Doherty tried to seal the deal by calling Moss a nasty old rag. Ah, amour. Photograph: Dan Chung/Guardian
Paul Potts
The sensational Paul Potts, former Carphone Warehouse salesman and Britain’s Got Talent winner, is at number one in the album charts with his debut One Chance. His record label splashed out for a new set of nashers to make him more attractive to the denture-fixated American market. Needless to say, this is a before picture. Photograph: Richard Drew/AP
Michael Caine
Michael Caine baffled the nation when he announced he loved chillout music so much that he was going to release a personally endorsed compilation. And it’s going to be called Cained. For more details, click here. Photograph: Stephan C Archetti /Getty
Usher
R&B singer Usher cancelled his wedding on the day vows were to be exchanged, prompting much speculation about the state of his relationship with pregnant bride-to-be Tameka Foster. Photograph: Ethan Miller/Getty
bob dylan
Bob Dylan, seen here in a still from the documentary Eat The Document, was the latest recipient of producer Mark Ronson's remixing skills. Dylan’s song Most Like You’ll Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine) was given a funk makeover. Opinion on the blog gave the result a big thumbs down. Photograph: Bettmann/Corbis/Corbis
Lennon's Specs
John Lennon’s iconic gold-rimmed specs were sold at auction this week. Bids were expected to reach as much £1m, but the auctioneers refused to say how much they were eventually sold for. Photograph: 991.com/PA
Takashi Murakami
Rapper Kanye West announced he will be working with Takashi Murakami, the 'Warhol' of Japan, on a series of projects surrounding his forthcoming album Graduation. Click here for more. Photograph: Sarah lee/Guardian
Prince
Prince kicked off his 21-date residency at London's 02 Arena. This picture shows the singer in silhouette during his infamous half-time performance during February’s Superbowl in Miami. Read Alexis Petridis’ review of his opening night here. Photograph: Alex Brandon/AP

The Arctic Monkeys played two open-air gigs at Old Trafford in Manchester. The gigs were widely regarded as their "Knebworth", a reference to the gigs Oasis played at Knebworth castle at the height of their career in 1996. Lead singer Alex Turner told the crowd: 'It's been a pleasure. I won't forget it." Photograph: Shirlaine Forrest/Wire Image
New Order
New Order's messy demise looked to be final this week, as Peter Hook's relationship with Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris disintegrated and all was divulged (rather incoherently) through his MySpace page. The band are pictured here, during happier times, in 1989. Read the latest story here. Photograph: Bob Berg/Getty
