The Weapon of Revenge isn’t a love story. Inspired by great names such as Sidney Sheldon and Ken Follett, Danilo Barbosa has been making room in the thriller genre with lots of merit. In his first novel, he doesn’t measure his words and explores, as a master, the worst face of human beings: our dark side, that which makes people lie, betray, torture and, ultimately, kill.
Anne, a very attractive brunette, had always been a target to men who weren’t up to her standard. First, she had a catastrophic relationship with Rambo, a feared drug kingpin who used to love mistreating her in all possible ways. Afterwards, she met the seductive Richard, fell in love with him, thinking she had finally found the love of her life, but painfully realised that Prince Charming doesn’t exist at all, and that Richard was far worse than Rambo. These two men had shattered Anne’s life, taking her to the rock bottom. But Anne wouldn’t stay shattered. Rebuilding herself, she became a strong woman, and decided she would not measure efforts to wreak havoc on their lives in a cold and calculated way.
Telling more about the plot could be a spoiler, but every courageous reader who dares to read it must be prepared to have thrills running high and experience a great shot of distressed feelings interacting in a way that makes them devour the 200 pages long book, as if they were quenching Anne’s thirst for revenge.
Originally written in Brazilian Portuguese, the novel has not been translated to English yet, but here there’s a hope that soon The Revenge Weapon can enchant (and perhaps evoke fear in) readers overseas.
