The Weakest Link to be remade with Glee star Jane Lynch

The Weakest Link is to be remade in the US and hosted by former Glee star Jane Lynch.

The British quiz show, famous for its acid-tongued host Anne Robinson, was an early 2000s sensation thanks to its central catchphrase: “You are the weakest link, goodbye!”

Lynch will replace Robinson in a new revival of the show for US broadcaster NBC, which has been described as a “fresh, new take” on the format.

“I’ve been a longtime fan of this game-changing quiz show since it first debuted,” Lynch said in a statement. “Each time the phrase ‘You are the Weakest Link. Goodbye’ passes my lips, it will be with great reverence and delight.”

Since ending her star-making role of villainous cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on Glee, Lynch has most visibly worked as a television host.

Her NBC game show Hollywood Game Night, in which celebrities compete against one another playing games of varying difficulty, has been a runaway hit since its debut in 2013.

The Weakest Link, which launched on BBC Two in 2000, was first remade in the US in 2001, with Robinson reprising her role as host.

The new Weakest Link will reportedly begin filming once the entertainment industry is safe to reopen following the coronavirus outbreak.
