The Wanted's Tom Parker to miss Newcastle gig due to cancer treatment

In some sad news for fans of The Wanted, Tom Parker has confirmed that he will miss the boyband's concert in Newcastle on Friday night.

After nearly a decade away from the charts, the boyband returned this year with two new singles and a reissued greatest hits album and have now hit the road on a nationwide arena tour.

The tour kicked off in Glasgow on Thursday night, with The Wanted's setlist featuring their many hits including number 1s All Time Low and Glad You Came.

However, on the eve of the tour stating, Tom, who shared the news he'd been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2020, that he'd have to miss the first few gigs, including the one at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, due to his treatment in Spain taking longer than expected.

Taking to Twitter, Tom posted: "So, as most of you know, I’ve been out in Spain on a treatment programme for the past couple of weeks. It was only meant to last 20 days but due to a couple of logistical changes with tests and results it won’t be complete until the end of the week now which has delayed

"...our journey home.I’m obviously gutted that I’ll be missing the first few shows but as I’m sure you will understand, I have to complete my treatment cycle.I know that the show will be incredible and that my boys will hold the fort down until I’m back."

While gutted that Tom will not join bandmates Max George, Jay McGuinness, Nathan Sykes and Siva Kaneswaran for the first few shows, The Wanted fans were quick to wish Tom well.

One wrote: "We are all just grateful there is a tour at all, you come first so rest up as much as you need, we will all still be here when you are back... for now concentrate on yourself, you got this."

A second replied: "Your health comes first and all that matters. The boys are pros and won't let you down it will be an incredible show and cheering loud for you no matter what. And can’t wait to have you back on that stage where you belong stay strong and keep fighting."

There are still a few tickets left for The Wanted in Newcastle on Friday, online from Ticketmaster.
