The Walking Dead: Last Mile interactive event begins on Facebook

Remember those joyous days when Farmville made Facebook seems like it would be the next big gaming platform? That was more than a decade ago, and the social media platform isn’t exactly most people’s go-to for playing games anymore. However, The Walking Dead: Last Mile might change things.

On Monday, Facebook Gaming and Genvid Entertainment announced that The Walking Dead: Last Mile will begin its four-month streaming event with an open beta. The massively interactive live event (MILE) experience goes down entirely on Facebook. Watchers can influence how the narrative shakes out through minigames and daily story content, and it only requires a web browser. So it’s essentially a choose-your-own-adventure title but millions of participants. I know – it’s kind of weird.

The Walking Dead: Last Mile takes place in a rural Alaskan village known as Prosper Landing. Every character’s well-being is on the line, and in typical series fashion – you can either help someone survive or send them to an early grave.

Last Mile is a bold and exciting new expansion for The Walking Dead,” Robert Kirkman, Skybound Entertainment chairman and franchise creator, said in a press release. “Throughout the history of The Walking Dead, characters are forced to make hard choices with serious consequences. For the first time in The Walking Dead: Last Mile, fans will make those choices together, as a community. The results will not only change the fate of those characters but also their future in the franchise.”

There’ll be weekly wrap-up shows for The Walking Dead: Last Mile, with the first happening July 11, 2022, at 4:00 P.M. PDT // 7:00 P.M. EDT // 11:00 P.M. GMT. Hosting duties fall to Yvette Nicole Brown and Felicia Day will recap the major story beats that everyone makes.
