The Wales player ratings as Brennan Johnson dazzles and Cardiff City starlet with ice running through his veins

Here's how the Wales players rated during the 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic.

Wayne Hennessey 7

Smart save to deny Kuchta early on, but was otherwise seldom tested. Couldn't really do much about the goal, either. A solid, albeit quite quiet night on his 100th outing. Subbed.

Chris Mepham 7

Super block to deny Kuchta early on. Looked assured up until a lunge on Soucek, after which he initially seemed to lose his composure a little. Recovered after the break to cap off a decent return to the back three that will have gone some way to impressing his boss.

Ben Cabango 6

An early slip nearly proved costly and he perhaps should have done more to get tighter to Soucek for the goal. Was nevertheless a decent presence in the air against physical Czech front line, and he did seem to settle as the game wore on.

Chris Gunter 6

His long balls down the right were key to unleashing the power and pace of Brennan Johnson. Some decent defensive contributions too, but otherwise quite quiet and perhaps could have read game better on a couple of occasions. Replaced.

Sorba Thomas 6

Couldn't quite get into the game going forward. Should have done a little more to prevent the cross for the opening goal too. Nearly made up for things with a sublime freekick delivery after the break that was nearly glanced home by Mepham.

Joe Morrell 7

Felt like he was everywhere for much of the first half. Perhaps went off the boil a little after the break, but put his foot in when needed and mopped up well in front of the back three, adding much-needed steel to his team's defensive efforts. All pretty solid.

Will Vaulks 6

Typically combative on his first Wales start for three years as evidenced by a heavy tackle early on. Was clearly desperate to impress having been out of the international picture for so long, and this performance will have gone some way to proving himself to Page. Tenacious in the middle of the park, and a real presence arriving late into the box . Clattered the post and sent a half-volley wide. Subbed.

Rhys Norrington-Davies 6

Gave the Czechs a little too much space out wide at times, and wasn't quite able to affect things too much going forward, barring a couple of decent crosses. A steady return to the starting XI and he worked his socks off all night, but not much to really set pulses racing on this occasion.

Rubin Colwill 7

Looked a little nervous early on in what was his first home start in a Wales shirt. Gave the ball away a little too easily on one or two occasions as a result. Ice cold finish to restore parity and oozed class, though, and did wonders for his confidence. Held ball up nicely from that moment on and drew fouls effectively. Only criticism you could make was that he sometimes bit off a little more than he could chew when taking on his man. Subbed.

Rabbi Matondo 7

Initially found it tricky dealing to match the physicality of the Czech defence, but actually looked quite promising. Should have finished a little better with a first half strike, but his pace caused some real issues alongside Johnson up front. Teed up Vaulks before half-time as the midfielder struck the post. Looks a better player than his last Wales appearance nearly a year ago to the day, but concerns over his end product will likely remain. Still, a reasonable outing all things considered.

Brennan Johnson 8 - STAR MAN

Pace caused problems all evening. A series of runs behind the defence provided the spark for his side's best moments. Did brilliantly for first goal, with his breakneck pace putting it on a plate for Colwill. Nearly slipped in Matondo just before the break with superbly-timed pass. Unlucky not to find the net himself, driving wide just after half-time before then forcing a good save. A really good all round performance from a man that is surely set to a future star for his country. Subbed.

Subs

Adam Davies - (on for Hennessey 60) - Didn't have an awful lot to do when he came on, but distribution looked sharp enough - 6

Joe Rodon - (on For Gunter 60) - Took the armband and did well to shore up the defence late on - 6

Ethan Ampadu - (on for Will Vaulks 60) - Kept midfield ticking over reasonably well. As above really in terms of influence - 6

Jonny Williams - (on for Matondo 71) - Some decent runs down the left, but to be honest, looked a little rusty - 5

Gareth Bale (on for Colwill 81) - Enjoyed a couple of decent sights at goal but not enough time to make a real impact - 6

Mark Harris (on for Johnson 81) - Came on too late to make an impact - 5
