The Wales chance Daniel James can use to re-ignite his Man Utd career

Ryan Giggs believes the international break could provide Daniel James the chance to re-ignite himself at club level with Manchester United.

The winger joined the Red Devils from Swansea City last summer and shone in the opening stages of his debut season at Old Trafford, scoring three goals in his first four Premier League appearances for the club.

However, his influence waned in the second half of the 2019/20 season, with James starting just three of his side's 14 post-lockdown matches.

The 22-year-old has this week linked up with his international team mates for the first time this year, with Wales facing Finland and Bulgaria in the Nations League.

And Giggs believes James can use Wales' double header as a springboard to start his 2020/21 campaign in the best possible fashion.

"He is a player I know well," said Giggs.

"He had a really good start to his United career but didn’t play as much towards the end of the season but sometimes in the long run that can help you.

"You can have a different perspective of things. DJ has always been great when he has come into camp.

"I think sometimes the players that don’t necessarily play all the time for their clubs, it gives them a chance to get some minutes, try and get some form to go back to their clubs and show their clubs what they can do.

"Perhaps DJ is in that camp. United start a week later but DJ will turn up fit and raring to go, I’m sure."

Juventus star Aaron Ramsey and Bournemouth's David Brooks have both withdrawn from the Wales squad due to injury.

It means James is the front runner to start on one of the flanks as Giggs' men face Finland in Helsinki on Thursday night.

The winger has won 10 caps and scored twice for his country since making his international debut against Albania in November 2018.
