The wait to get a Greggs sausage roll in Nailsea may soon be over after closure of branch

Waiting six months to get your hands on a warm Greggs sausage roll is a tough challenge.

But it has been one faced by people in Nailsea since their local branch of the food store closed at the beginning of the year.

The branch at Colliers Walk closed in January, with bosses promising a new, bigger and better store was due to open in April.

But April came and went and Greggs has yet to re-open.

Those desperate to get their hands on a sausage roll or ice ring doughnut instead faced driving six and a half miles to Portishead or seven miles to Clevedon to satisfy their cravings.

But it seems as if the wait for Greggs treats may soon be over.

Bosses at the fast food retailer are promising the store will re-open in the near future although have yet to confirm a date.

A Greggs spokesperson said: "The launch date of the Nailsea shop has unfortunately been delayed and will open a little later than originally planned.

Where in the UK has the most Greggs stores?

“The great news is that this will be a completely new shop for our customers to enjoy. We will be sharing the new opening date as soon as we can and look forward to welcoming customers back very soon."

Locals are looking forward to the opening.

One shopper said: "A visit to Greggs is part of my daily routine.

"I always pop in for a sausage roll and ice ring doughnut.

"I've felt bereft without the store, but I expect I've lost a few pounds."

And the good news is that when the Nailsea shop does re-open, it will be double the size and have a seating area for customers to 'eat in.'

The spokesman added: "Our Nailsea shop is currently being refurbished to offer customers a contemporary food-on-the-go experience.

"The new look shop will be twice the size and will provide seating for customers who wish to enjoy their purchases inside the shop."

Parsons Bakery just round the corner at Crown Glass Place - which already has a seated cafe area -  has been ensuring the people of Nailsea do not go hungry with its range of delicious treats.

The refurbishment work forms part of a number of changes to retail units at Collier's Walk with a number of businesses taking on bigger, new units in the retail complex and new traders moving in.
