The North West's arts sector has received a welcome boost with the return of classes, workshops and exhibitions at Derry's Void Gallery.
First up, budding authors can join Mel Bradley for a creative writing workshop over two evenings starting this Thursday, July 22, and Thursday, July 29, at the new location on Waterloo Place.
No writing experience is required as you will be guided through the process by Mel.
The theme takes inspiration from Elizabeth Price’s work Stiletto which tells the story of the word stiletto.
In the first workshop, students will create a life model with words using a variety of exercises. Then in the second class – using the words and phrases from the first class – attendees will start putting together text.
Mel is a spoken word artist, writer, playwright/theatre-maker, multimedia artist, designer, actor and activist.
She has a diverse background in devising workshops for young people, including those from marginalised groups.
She has held creative workshops for a wide range of groups and organisation, numerous schools north and south of the border and as a one-to-one mentor.

The Void Gallery is also hosting Elizabeth Price's first solo exhibition, Choreography.
Emerging from the era of lockdown, where technology became our means of connection to the world, Price’s work embodies the notion of "cognitive harmony between the body and the machine".
Her works reflect our anxiety as we enter this new historical moment, the sense of the unknown of what our new reality will bring and the significant role technology will play.
This exhibition can be enjoyed in the Void Gallery, Waterloo Place, every Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm.
