Sir Tom Jones had The Voice UK viewers “in tears” after delivering an emotional performance on the programme.

During yesterday’s episode (16 January) of the singing competition, Jones surprised viewers with an impromptu rendition of Eddie Fisher’s 1953 hit song “With These Hands”.

The 80-year-old, who serves as a vocal coach on the series, was prompted by fellow judge Olly Murs to perform the song that Elvis Presley had been singing when Jones met him in 1965.

Jones’s powerful performance was met with awe by viewers who took to Twitter to share their praise for the singer.

“Anyone else cry when Tom Jones sings. Gets me everytime,” said one user. Another said: “It’s Saturday again people. Here I am gushing over Tom Jones again. King Tom.”

A third person applauded the Grammy award-winner’s vocals, stating: “Tom Jones’s voice is still sensational at the age of 80.”

Many viewers called the Welsh singer a “legend” as well as a “national treasure”, while others stated that the touching rendition left them “in tears” and “absolutely bawling”.

“I needed a mascara warning,” joked one user.

Jones – whose hit tracks include “What’s New Pussycat?”, “Sex Bomb” and “It’s Not Unusual – first joined The Voice UK as a judge in 2015.
