The Voice Kids star Chloe Dring who was fed through a tube wows crowd and Pixie Lott on the show

A 12-year-old girl from Calverton told how she uses singing to overcome her medical problems - as she wowed the crowds and Pixie Lott on The Voice Kids.

Chloe Dring had to wear a feeding tube after she began to find it hard to keep food and drink down - thought to be due to a digestive condition - in October 2017.

She was admitted to the Queen's Medical Centre and medics discovered she had ulcers in her oesophagus and she was diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease.

She spent around 12 days there and she was put on medication and also fitted with a tube so she could be fed a liquid diet and kept hydrated.

But Chloe loves to sing - and amazingly, her hobby has strengthened her throat to the extent that she no longer has to wear a tube.

"I was so nervous before going on the blind audition, I was shaking," said Chloe, who auditioned for The Voice Kids at the end of last year, when she was still wearing her tube.

"It's amazing that doing something I love has helped me in how I feel with not needing the tube.

"I was so relieved when Pixie turned around for me. It meant so much for her to do that.

"I found it hard to sing with the tube in as it vibrates and makes it difficult to hit the high notes."

Chloe's mum, Lynette Williams, 41, said: "She still has issues with swallowing, her brain has not got used to the idea of it yet because the tube used to go straight into her stomach.

"But I'm so proud of her, she amazes me every day. The doctors have said it's down to her breathing exercises for singing that have helped her."

Chloe was due to audition on last year's The Voice Kids but was too poorly to take part. This year she wowed during singing 'She Used To Be Mine' by Sarah Bareilles, leading to coach Pixie Lott spinning her chair for her.

She gained confidence to audition for the show after appearing on Michael McIntyre's Big Show.

Lynette added: "All the kids are amazing. Chloe has made loads of new friends, it's been an amazing experience for her."

Members of the Calverton community gathered in a pub to watch Chloe star on the show on Saturday, June 22 - leading to "cheers and tears" as she belted out the tricky high note.

"The village has been incredible, everyone is rooting for her to do well and are very proud of her. We've had complete strangers messaging us about how great she is doing," added mum Lynette.

While Chloe dreams of a career in the music industry, she also wants to go into teaching others how to sing after she was inspired by her vocal coach.
