The viral recipe to make Greggs-style bakes at home for 37p each

When the UK went into lockdown earlier this week, many of our favourite shops, restaurants and fast food outlets took the decision to close.

Amongst those that are now shut, is Greggs - leaving many fans of the bakery chain craving its delicious baked goods.

Luckily, one woman has shared a recipe to make sausage and bean melt bakes, which are similar to those you can buy at Greggs, at home - and the best news is they only cost 37p each. Bargain.

The recipe was originally shared by ‎Lou Clair Lanham, who posted it into a popular food budgeting Facebook group.

Alongside a photo of her delicious creation, Lou revealed what ingredients she'd use, and how much they cost.

Here's her list:

  • Puff Pastry form Lidl - 89p
  • Half a tin of beans - 20p
  • Sprinkle of cheese - pennies
  • Iceland sausages 30 for £3 in freezer

After filling the pastry with the rest of the ingredients, Lou slow baked them in an electric fan oven at 150 degrees for about 30/35 minutes. She advises to keep checking them while they cook.

Lou told us "you can also make chicken [bakes] using the chicken in white sauce in a can from Tesco."

Apparently, she says, it 'tastes just as good.'

The recipe has already racked up hundreds of likes and comments, with many Facebook users keen to give it a go.

One social media user wrote: "Definitely making these, my grandchildren will love them."

Somebody else added: "I made the bacon and cheese ones my kids loved them so easy and a lot cheaper."

"Thank you for a great idea. These look delicious," said somebody else.
