Liverpool fans in Japan send special message to Takumi Minamino after forward completes transfer

Liverpool have today announced the signing of Takumi Minamino from Salzburg.

The Japan international sealed a £7.25m move after impressing for his side against Liverpool in both Champions League group games this season

The Reds have been laying the groundwork on a transfer for quite some time.

We asked the Official Liverpool Supporters Club of Japan for their thoughts on Minamino ahead of his switch to Anfield.

Thanks to Itatsu for answering our questions...

What is your reaction to Takumi Minamino signing for Liverpool? And what has the reaction been like in Japan?

"Yes! It's a dream come true! I'm really excited. Sometimes in football, transfer rumours are just rumours and it disappoints me. (I never forget about Yevhen Konoplyanka...) So I am really happy this transfer is coming true!

"And furthermore, this current Liverpool squad is the strongest ever and such a team moved to get this Japanese player and supporters all over the world welcome him!

"It's really, really exciting as a Japanese fan. And almost all fans have the same reaction! It will be top news of tomorrow's sports."

If you could send one message to Takumi right now, what would it say?

"Welcome to our club! We are really proud of you because Liverpool is the greatest club in the world! We hope you are successful and enjoy your journey. We are always on your side. 一緒に戦おう!ようこそミナミーノ!"(Fight with us! Welcome Minaminho!)

Do you have a message for Liverpool fans?

"Thank you for your welcoming atmosphere and I really look forward to seeing how Anfield welcomes Minamino on his debut. Please support him! He will be our missing piece for taking titles!"

How does Minamino rank in Japan's national team? Is he the best player?

"Definitely one of the best.

"After the big era for Japan (Honda, Nagatomo, Kagawa, Hasebe) he is one of the leading players of the current squad."

What do you think he will bring to Liverpool's team?

"He is a passionate player, so I think he can bring a new wind to existing players. Also, he has the hardworking nature that [Jurgen] Klopp loves. He can improve more under the manager."

What's his favoured position and where might he fit in alongside Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino?

"There are so many kind of opinions [on his best position], even in Japan.

"His first choice is the same as Firmino. He can chase for the ball, and also has technical skills. But of course, Bobby is world best player, so Minamino is not same level, but he can also move as a winger. That's why I think [he has] some ability to bring more tactics [options] to Liverpool.

"He recently played for Japan as a forward, it is more likely to play as substitute for front three. But he used to play as a midfielder in J-League, so he also has [the] ability to play alongside [Jordan] Henderson or Fabinho."

What are Minamino's strengths and best qualities? And what can Liverpool fans expect to see from him?

"He has both toughness and technique at the same time. [His] assist in the Asian Cup 2019 semi-finals (against Iran) is just one example.

"He concentrated on playing and provided a beautiful cross for his team mates and created a precious first goal for the Japan team. This kinds of play is what the Kop want to see, and Klopp also tends to love."
