The Vicar Of Dibley is coming back for a lockdown Christmas special

The BBC has confirmed that Dawn French is coming back to The Vicar Of Dibley for a Christmas special.

The Vicar Of Dibley In Lockdown will see the comedian return as her character Geraldine Granger, reports the Daily Star.

The 63-year-old actress said: "Back in the dog collar, back in Dibley and back on your telly at Christmas. I couldn't be happier. Bless you."

The show's writer Richard Curtis said: "Like every village in the country, there's been a lot happening in Dibley this year – and Dawn has got a lot to say about it."

The show first aired in November 1994 for a six-episode run.

It returned two years later in 1996 for two specials, before a four-episode second season was finally released in 1997.

Between 1999 and 2000 there were four seasonal specials, before the popular show went on a four-year hiatus.

A Very Dibley Christmas aired on Christmas Day 2004 and New Year's Day 2005, with an average of 12.05million viewers.
