The very latest coronavirus infection rates across Greater Manchester

Covid-19 infection rates in Bolton have now dropped to below the 200 mark, latest figures revealed today.

The data, published by Public Health England, revealed only Manchester and Trafford were showing week-on-week rises in infections in Greater Manchester.

In Manchester tonight, the University of Manchester confirmed more than 200 students and staff have tested positive for coronavirus in the past ten days.

Bosses admitted the figures were 'high' and a 'serious concern'.

It follows an outbreak at two Manchester Metropolitan University halls of residence.

Bolton is now the only borough in Greater Manchester where the rate of infection is now said to be falling.

The figures - for the seven days up to September 28 - were released after local lockdown rules were extended to more of the north of England.

Lockdown measures in Bolton, however, were also aligned with the rest of Greater Manchester, meaning pubs and restaurants in the town can now reopen.

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Bolton's figure is now 190.

It represents a 19 per cent week-on-week decrease.
