The very latest coronavirus hotspots across Greater Manchester

Coronavirus cases are still hitting double figures in a number of neighbourhoods in Greater Manchester.

More positive test results have been recorded in the eastern and northern parts of the city, as well as areas of Oldham, Rochdale, Salford and Trafford.

Werneth in Oldham, one of the hardest hit areas, had 28 cases in the week ending August 24 - the highest number in the region.

Alexandra Park, another longstanding hotspot, had 18 cases in the same week.

Elsewhere, Crumpsall South in Manchester continues to be an area of concern with 19 new cases while Gorton South, to the east, recorded 13 and Levenshulme North 10.

The hotspots are visible on an interactive map using Government statistics (ONS)

Moss Side West, a previous area of concern, recorded nine.

The hotspots have been revealed thanks to an interactive map showing the number of positive Covid test results in each neighbourhood in England.

The map uses data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Despite local restrictions being eased in Trafford, two neighbourhoods were still hitting double figures.

Firswood in the north of Trafford recorded 13 cases while neighbouring Old Trafford recorded 11 - both between August 18 and 24.

Latest figures published by Public Health England this afternoon show that the infection rate in Trafford has gone back up sharply in the last couple of days.

The weekly case total is now over 25 per 100,000 people, which takes the borough above the threshold to be placed on amber alert on the government watchlist for local intervention.

An area dubbed 'Salford Central & University' on the map had 11 new cases and twelve cases were recorded in Central Rochdale & Mandale Park.
