Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has issued his verdict on imminent Arsenal signing Kieran Tierney, with a statement that will rattle those on Merseyside.
The Gunners are due to announce the capture of the 22-year-old left-back from Celtic on Deadline Day for a fee worth around £25m, becoming their fifth acquisition of the summer.
It has been a long saga but Unai Emery is finally getting his man and the excitement surrounding the addition could rise, as Nevin believes he is superior to Liverpool's Champions League winning full-back Andrew Robertson.
"If they get Kieran Tierney they are instantly improved. I love Tierney and he’s more than good enough to star in the Premier League. He is a left-back but can also play on the left of a three, or even the left of a two. He’d even flourish at right-back," he told the RacingPost.
"In fact I would have Tierney over Andrew Robertson and we know how good he has been for Liverpool. It’s typical, isn’t it? Scotland wait years for world-class players and then they get two in the same position.
"Much depends on how the rest of the transfer window maps out but I would envisage Arsenal being stronger than last season."
That verdict will certainly rattle Liverpool fans, as Robertson has been a superb addition since arriving at Anfield from Hull City.
