The VAR song Man City and Sheffield United fans sang together

Both Manchester City and Sheffield United fans sang "F*** VAR" during the first-half of their Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

The technology was called into question approaching 30 minutes into the game when Blades striker Lys Mousset raced clear and finished past Claudio Bravo.

However, after a subsequent check by VAR, the Frenchman was adjudged to be offside and the goal was ruled out meaning the score remained level.

Both sets of fans joined forces to chant "F*** VAR!" in clear disapproval of the technology that continues to cause controversy in the Premier League.

Earlier in the day, Liverpool defeated Wolves 1-0 at Anfield to maintain their lead at the top of the table but once again it was VAR that took centre stage.

Firstly, Liverpool's opener was ruled out for handball before VAR intervened and correctly called that the ball had actually struck Adam Lallana on the shoulder meaning the referee's decision was overturned.

On the stroke of half-time, Wolves thought they had equalised through Pedro Neto before VAR disallowed the strike for another contentious offside decision leaving Nuno Espirito Santos furious on the touchline.

After City's loss against Wolves, City midfielder Bernardo Silva called for changes to the technology.

He said: "I haven't watched them. So I can't say. The point of VAR is helping the referees so I'd like to believe he was helped.

"I like the idea that they show on the screen in the stadium so everyone sees it - the players, the referees and the fans.

"Maybe they do it one day like in rugby or in the NBA, I like. It of course needs improvement. Everyone needs to get used to it. It is still the beginning."
