The Vamps' Tristan Evans on why the band needed to take a break

This summer The Vamps gave fans the first bite from their shiny new album Cherry Blossom with the irresistible lead single Married in Vegas.

The lo-fi grind and slam of Married in Vegas - a story of reckless abandon after meeting a 'pretty little thing' in Sin City - heralded a mature new sound for the charming pop rock quartet.

It was conceived after a much-needed break following four albums, a string of big hits and being on tour every year since they released their debut album Meet The Vamps in 2014.

Singer Bradley Simpson, guitarist James McVey, bassist Connor Ball and drummer Tristan Evans wrote and recorded their new album during lockdown with home studio sessions and they're raring to go on tour with Cherry Blossom next year.

Drummer Tristan told us: "It has been a while.

"It's been two years since we released an album and we're feeling excited and energetic.

"A hundred per cent we needed to take a break, relax and get our energy back.

"We relaxed, spent time with our families and loved ones."

Tristan, 26, says they returned after their break feeling inspired.

"We had a lot of things to say," he said.

"We had time to think about what we felt and what we wanted to say.

"Hopefully our fans will like this. The sound overall is more mature which is what we wanted to achieve.

"We wanted to create a different sound and there's no limits."

The lads are set to go on tour from April and arriving at the Manchester Academy on May 4.

"I feel it's going to be so special," said Tristan.

"It's been a difficult time for everybody and it's been nice to have the support from our fans.

"Their support always makes me smile."

Cherry Blossom is released on Friday October 16.
