The Vagina Museum turns to Twitter in search of a new home

With time running out, the museum is now seeking public support

The Vagina Museum issued an online plea today in search of a new pad (excuse the pun) for their collection.

Taking to Twitter, the museum - the world’s first bricks and mortar home for all things gloriously gynaecological - explained that their current lease will soon come to an end, but they have yet to find a suitable alternative venue.

With time running out, they’re now seeking public support - either in the form of a new venue, donations, or storage and temporary office space.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given that at least half the population have a personal stake in their subject matter, the museum has already been met with an outpouring of support.

Zoe Williams, Development and Marketing Manager, said: “Since we went public with our plea for help, we’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the positive response of a community coming together to save the world’s only physical museum space dedicated to vaginas, vulvas, and the gynaecological anatomy.

“We’re sad to be leaving our first fixed home, where there’s many happy memories of the sheer public appetite for education, awareness, and empowerment, which is the focus of the Vagina Museum.

“For over a year, we’ve been looking for a new premises as we’d been struggling to meet demand, with over 119,000 visitors in the space of four months in a small space, but now, with our lease not being renewed, this search has become incredibly urgent.”

Asked about the situation, a spokesperson for Camden Market said: “We were excited to welcome the Vagina Museum to Camden Market in 2019. We liaised directly with Camden Council and secured a temporary 24 month planning permission to accommodate them.

“Unfortunately, this planning permission is due to expire and as a result we have already offered a new, larger location that fits the requirements of this business for a rental fee in line with current expectations. This offer has been declined, however, we are still happy to negotiate with the team should interest change at all.”
