The updated restrictions to know before booking your holiday to Spain or Portugal

Many Irish holidaymakers are getting ready to jet off over the next month or so as an easing of restrictions on international travel approaches.

For some, the ideal holiday is lazing by the pool or on the beach during the day, followed by an early evening stroll out for dinner and a drink before heading back home for an early one.

But others prefer the nightlife that extends into the early hours of the morning, which the likes of Spain and Portugal are so well known for.

However, this year passengers should bear in mind that restrictions remain in place across most holiday hotspots for the month of July, which see some areas closing bars and restaurants at 10:30 pm on weekdays and 3:30 pm on weekends and bank holidays to avoid crowds.

So if you’re thinking of heading away for a party holiday to blow off some steam, here are the curfews currently in place in some of our favourite holiday hotspots.

Spain

Marbella - Restaurants and bars can open until 12 midnight and take away services can continue business as normal. Up to 10 people can meet outside, but only eight inside restaurants. Nightclubs and bars can now open until 2am but dance floors can only be accessed if they are in open air spaces.

Majorca - Bars and restaurants can remain open until 2am once they do not exceed 50% capacity. Dancing is not allowed indoors or outdoors. All discos, party rooms and dance halls are closed.

Tenerife - All catering establishments have to close by midnight, and are only allowed to entertain a limited capacity inside and on terraces. Meanwhile, late-night bars, nightclubs & discos are closed, and crowd events are banned.

Malaga - Shops can open until 10.30pm (6pm if the municipality is Level 3 or higher), and bars, cafés and restaurants can open until midnight.

Magaluf - Popular party hotspots like the Magaluf strip in Mallorca are open as normal, but have strict rules against dancing, and drinks have to be ordered to your table.

Portugal

Lisbon/ Faro/ Lagos/ Praia da Rocha - Restaurants and cafes must close at 10.30pm during the week and 3.30pm at the weekend and during bank holidays.

Albufeira - As of July 1, an 11pm to 5am curfew is in place in 45 high-risk municipalities across Portugal, including the tourist magnet of Albufeira in the sunny southern Algarve region.
