The unseen Marco Silva reaction to Fulham defeat that proves his emotional connection to Everton

The last eight days for Everton have been a tale of two wildly contrasting matches.

On April 7th, Arsenal made the visit to Goodison Park to face Marco Silva's in-form men and were comprehensively sent back to north London with tails between their legs.

However, just six days later, the mood could hardly have been more different.

Travelling to an already-relegated Fulham, Everton were taught the harsh lesson that you can't let your effort levels drop for any game in the Premier League, no matter who you're playing.

Silva's side did that and were punished.

And just as there was a stark contrast in performances on the pitch from the Blues, there was also a massive difference in the mood behind the scenes.

After the Arsenal game Everton fans were clearly delighted with a confident and mature display, albeit without the amount of goals they really deserved to be treated to.

And that positive energy clearly radiated to the squad, as was shown in a brilliant video from the club in the following days.

But what wasn't shown was Silva's reaction.

The manager was positively beaming when walking through the corridors of Goodison Park after the match, stopping for handshakes in the media mixed zone and clearly delighted to have seen his side dominate proceedings so easily.

The boss was only too happy to speak about his side in glowing terms and looked emotionally invested in seeing his project produce a performance of such quality so soon.

Fast-forward those six days, and it was a different story.

Marco Silva admits concern about strange problem in Everton's season

The mood around Craven Cottage was massively contrasting from an Everton perspective at least.

Gone were the smiling faces in royal blue, the high fives in the tunnel, the handshakes through the mixed zone.

In their place were stony faced players and a manager who knows his side can't be putting in performances like the one they just did.

Silva's demeanour had subtly changed. His post-match press conference lasted just over two minutes, with the boss making clear he wasn't happy at all with his players.

In the boss' Everton boss Marco Silva defends decision to start Phil Jagielka against Fulham following that press conference there was certainly some bite.

When asked about the decision to play Phil Jagielka and subsequently his captain's performance during the game, the answer that came back was sharp and bristling.

"It's easy to look just at one player," the manager remarked.

"If you want to say that we lost because of Jagielka, you are completely wrong. It was not."

It wasn't an outburst by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a show of emotion many don't usually get to see from Silva when he is on camera.

Away from the spotlight the boss is someone who is much more open with his thoughts, as he has proven throughout the campaign in his more intimate one-on-one discussions.

This isn't a manager willing to give a stock answer after every game. This is someone who is invested in his task at hand.

When Everton fans are hurting, Silva feels the same.

When supporters are delighted with how their side have performed, the boss has proven he's not afraid to emit those emotions either.

Too often in the past few years Blues have questioned whether their manager at the time has really been in-tune with the fanbase.

Lacklustre Everton deserved nothing against Fulham as Marco Silva left wondering over his side

All Everton fans love the club, and it's understandable to expect that to be reciprocated on the touchline.

The last two matches have proven that the Blues are still a work in progress. This new project has only just got underway, and there will be bumps along the road.

But this pair of games have also proven just how much Silva cares about his work - even if it goes unseen to many.
