The unique way Sunderland star Luke O'Nien has been keeping sharp during lockdown

Sunderland star Luke O'Nien has shared how he is keeping his first touch sharp during lockdown and he is encouraging Black Cats fans to get involved as well.

O'Nien hasn't lined up for Sunderland since their last League One game - way back on March 10 - as Phil Parkinson's side await to hear whether the League One season will resume.

Because of Covid-19, the English football season was suspended just two days after Sunderland's dismal defeat at Bristol Rovers leaving Sunderland in seventh place in the League One table.

The English Football League have confirmed that the Championship will return on Saturday, June 20 but Sunderland and the rest of League One will have to wait another week before they will know whether the League One season will resume.

In the meantime, O'Nien has been keeping busy in the hope Sunderland will continue their bid for promotion to the Championship and shared a video to his Twitter account to show how fans how he is maintaining his first touch.

The former Wycombe Wanderers star has been volleying a tennis ball against a wall in order to practise his first touch and weight of pass and he is encouraging Sunderland fans to send in their attempts.

O'Nien tweeted: "An exercise to improve your touch that I’ve practiced from aged 5 to 25! As I got older, the ball got smaller.

"Let’s see some isolation attempts at home this weekend (please mind any windows)."
