The Unfamiliar: Intriguing new horror film to be released at home next month

A new British indie film being released next month is intriguing fans of horror.

Titled The Unfamiliar, the new feature’s trailer teases what is described as a “uniquely twisted” plot line.

The film follows a British doctor (Mortal Instruments‘ Jemima West) who, after coming home from the war, believes she is suffering from Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

However, after her past life increasingly feels less familiar, it becomes clear something more sinister may be haunting her.

The Unfamiliar, directed by Hank Pretorius, is hoping to capitalise on the success of recent horror films released digitally in the wake of the pandemic.

One such film is Host, the film director Rob Savage shot over messaging platform Zoom while in lockdown.

Going by the first look at The Unfamiliar, it seems horror fans can expect a genre-shifting ride in the spirit of Ben Wheatley’s films, which have included Kill List (2011) and A Field in England (2013).

Christopher Dane, Rebecca Hanssen, Rachel Lin and Harry McMillan-Hunt also star.

The Unfamiliar is out now in the US and will be released on digital in the UK on 11 September
