This book centres around Andie who always has a plan for everything yet ends up with a summer full of the unexpected when all her plans are cancelled. She ends up with an unlikely job and a lot of quality time with her dad - the exact opposite of her normal summer.
While this does change her whole summer and brings with it many new problems and complications, could it help her both improve her relationship with her dad and get to know Clark – the awkward new boy in the neighbourhood - much better?
This book started off rather typically, with a rich, privileged teenage girl who was pretty, intelligent and had a close group of friends. This made me dislike her character as she was so fake yet, as this book develops, you actually get to see her personality develop into someone who has their own problems and is still dealing with them but is completely committed to both family and friends (even if the rich part hasn’t changed).
Morgan Matson also shows the development of the relationship between Andie and her father very well and makes you invest something in the relationship; you really want it to work out for them.
The Unexpected Everything is set to be the next big summer read of 2016, aimed mainly at teenage girls, and I fully expect it to live up to these expectations as it is a decent read with character development, plot twists and an engaging story that is actually very realistic.
This book made me both laugh at its jokes and worry whenever something goes wrong. I highly recommend this book for teenage girls because it is a very decent read with believable, in-depth characters that you can really get to know, plus plenty of plot twists and interesting developments which change the pace of the book entirely. It also gets you into the spirit of summer and gives you many ideas of things to try with your friends!
