The unexpected £8m windfall Arsenal could receive to help fund Thomas Partey transfer

The transfer window is now open, which means speculation as to who Arsenal may or may not sign over the next few weeks has begun.

Mikel Arteta is expected to strengthen his squad over the coming weeks, especially when it is known if Arsenal will be playing European football again next season.

The Gunners take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final this afternoon knowing that a win wouldn’t only see them lift the prestigious trophy, but will also secure them a place in next season’s Europa League.

One of the players that Arteta is said to be looking at is Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

Reports claim that Arsenal have already had an offer including midfielder Matteo Guendouzi rejected by the Spanish side, with Atletico insisting that they will only accept should the player’s £44 million release clause in his contract be met.

That demand could be a problem for Arsenal with the Gunners facing a tight transfer budget this summer, especially if they are not playing in Europe next season.

However, Arteta could get some unexpected funds to put towards the capture of Partey due to the sale of a young player.

Brentford are already planning for next season, despite yet not knowing if they will be playing in the Championship or Premier League. The Bees face Fulham in the playoff final in a few days time.

Thomas Frank is keen on a move for Arsenal’s U23 striker Folarin Balogun, having attempted to sign the teenager back in January.

According to Sky Sports , the Bees remain interested in the forward, who has not made an appearance for Arsenal’s first team, with Arsenal demanding a fee of at least £8m for the player.

Should no team meet that demand, then the player will be available on a free transfer next summer.

However, Brentford getting promoted to the Premier League will mean that they have extra cash to spend this summer and therefore could meet Arsenal’s asking price, giving the Gunners extra money to put in the Partey fund.
