A beach in Yorkshire has been named one of the best in the world for families.
Filey Beach, near Scarborough features alongside Bondi Beach in Australia and Siesta Beach in Florida in a compilation of the best beaches on the planet.
Beating off competition from major exotic coastal hotspots, the understated east-coast gem has been revealed as a "perfect beach for kids".
The five mile stretch of sweeping sands at Filey is praised for its clean sand, clear water and provisions for young children.
Ranking number six in a list compiled by Trip Advisor, they describe the beach as "a perfect beach for kids to explore" owing to the sculpture trail that surrounds the bay, and the ancient remains of the Roman signal station overlooking the bay.
Also recommended are the number of rock pools, which "provide hours of fun looking at marine life" and the solid list of family-friendly facilities, including cafés, changing facilities, a playground and a crazy golf course.
The Yorkshire gem is also rated in the top ten beaches in the whole of the UK according to the online review site.
With 2,315 overwhelmingly positive reviews, Filey is also commended for its flat access, ample lifeguards and unspoilt historical promenade.
Visitors also recommend a walk along the cliff top to make the most of the views across the bay.
