The underrated West Country village now the country's coolest place to live

A little-known village in Cornwall has been voted the "coolest" in Britain. Nature Can recently put out a poll quizzing people on the most trendy areas in the UK.

Results showed four West Country locations in the top 50. Dorset's West Bay was ranked 49th which came just behind Croyde in Devon (22nd), Harbourside in Bristol (8th), and first place went to Polperro in Cornwall.

The fishing village boasts whitewashed stone cottages and a stunning harbour. Gina Farrell, 52, a painter who runs a gallery overlooking the harbour, told the Daily Mail: 'I'm not at all surprised it's been voted the hippest town. Everybody who comes here seems to come back.

"Even when the weather's miserable like today it is very Instagrammable. When I go on holiday I just can't wait to come home.

"It's a very different place in the summer with tourists here. It's almost like living in two different towns every year - but it never gets boring.

"I love it all year round, in the winter when there are fewer tourists here it gives me an opportunity to paint then in the summer."

And reviewers on TripAdvisor were equally as glowing. One person said: "Amazing views. Park up for the day at the top of Polperro, meander through it's picture-perfect winding lanes and head out on the footpath to Talland Bay. There you will find a pretty little cove and cafe to rest a while before heading back to spend the rest of the afternoon back in Polperro. Plenty of lovely little shops, boat trips and excellent pubs and eateries."

Another person who visited the village's Three Pilchards said: "We had a lovely lunch and a few drinks at the Three Pilchards. We visited the village in low season ( beg of march) to look around and have some lunch. Not much was open but that added to the charm. We basically had the village to ourselves. On walking into the pub we where greeted with the warmest welcome. We both had the starter fish goujons (which where massive) delicious, fresh and crispy with a side of chips!"

The results were based on a survey of 5,000 people from health and fitness supplements brand Nature Can, which set up panels throughout the UK to find out the coolest location for each county and big city. Its study ranked locations based on a number of factors, including the number of independent shops, the range of cultural events, how 'Instagrammable' they were, and their popularity as a location for films and TV shows.
