The ultimate midfielder: Scholes, Kante, Lampard and Gerrard feature as Harry Winks builds the complete player

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has included former team-mate Mousa Dembele, alongside both Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard as he builds the ultimate midfielder.

The 24-year-old broke into the Tottenham team under former manager Mauricio Pochettino and has regained his place under Jose Mourinho, playing 33 games in all competitions this season.

Winks, who was dubbed 'Little Iniesta' by Pochettino, missed the 2018 World Cup through injury, but has otherwise also impressed internationally with England and is expected to be part of the promising squad moving forward.

Speaking to Tubes in an interview for Sky Sports, Winks broke down the qualities of a midfielder to build the ultimate player.

Take a look at Winks' picks below...

Passing - Paul Scholes

"His passing and his range was incredible. He could do it all: long passes, short passes - he was a top player. He was someone that I looked up to.

"I would have loved to have had that passing ability - we're a similar stature as well."

Strength - Mousa Dembele

"I had the pleasure to play and train with him for many years, and he was the strongest player I've ever come across. Not only a great player but strong as an ox.

"He was underrated, a top player. Now everyone realises how good he was."

Engine - N'Golo Kante

"He's a top player. Since he's come to England he's been fantastic. Playing against him, he's someone who never gives you a yards space or a breath at all.

"He's super-fit. Playing against him you're thinking 'last 15 or 20 minutes he's going to blow up' but he's still going like he was in the first minute - he doesn't stop.

Brain - Andrea Pirlo or Xavi Hernandez

"It's between two: Pirlo and Xavi, they made the game look so easy. They always made it look so simple and that's a credit to their ability but their brains as well."

Pace - Kaka

"I remember back in the day, in his early years, Kaka wasn't rapid but he had long strides, he was quite leggy and he managed to get away from his opponents so well.

"Not only did he have such amazing skill and technique but that pace to get away from them as well."

Leadership - Steven Gerrard

"He's been a legend, rightly so, at Liverpool for many years. His leadership, especially in the Champions League final [against AC Milan] when he basically helped Liverpool come back, it just showed what kind of leader he was."

Goalscoring - Frank Lampard

"His goalscoring record for Chelsea is second to none. To do it from midfield and in the manner he did it in - outside the box, long-range, short-range, headers - he had everything."
