The UK's cheapest supermarket for September has been revealed

Consumer advice specialist website Which? has revealed how much an average family shop at Lidl, Aldi, Asda, Tesco and more will cost you this month.

Ultimately, the team behind the website have revealed the cheapest supermarket to shop at this month, which could save you almost £40 a week on your shop.

Purchasing 74 of the most common items bought by shoppers in the UK, Which? compared eight of the UK's biggest brand supermarkets and revealed the cheapest.

The UK's cheapest supermarkets for September 2020:

1. Aldi - Cost £66.45

2. Lidl - Cost £67.17

3. Asda - Cost £74.12

4. Tesco - Cost £82.11

5. Morrisons - Cost £84.73

6. Sainsbury's - Cost £87.45

7. Ocado - Cost £100.16

8. Waitrose - Cost £105.25

Which? also carried out another shopping test adding much loved brand items to a shop of 165 items from larger supermarkets.

The UK's cheapest supermarkets for big named brands in September 2020:

1. Asda - Cost £256.31

2. Tesco - Cost £271.73

3. Sainsbury's - Cost £277.40

4. Morrisons - Cost £281.17

5. Ocado - Cost £304.61

6. Waitrose - Cost £322.87

September marks a new era for Ocado as it formally parts with Waitrose online. Ocado's new partnership will see them team up with M&S Food.

Another Which? survey revealed shoppers would spend £2.74 less on M&S-branded items than they would for equivalent Waitrose-branded products.
