The UK's biggest lager festival is landing in Manchester this week

A festival dedicated to craft lager will kick off in Manchester next week, taking over a Grade II-listed building for four days.

Created by Manchester Union Lager - Manchester's first and only dedicated craft lager brewery - the festival will take place at Upper Campfield Market between April 4 and 7.

We Are Lager's lineup now includes over 50 lagers from 22 international breweries, as well as a busy bill of street food traders and an impressive line up of DJs.

Manchester Union Lager launched in January this year and will be serving its easy-drinking beer alongside fellow Manchester brewery Cloudwater.

The beer bill, which was finalised earlier this week, will also include UK-based Pillars Brewery, Mondo Brewing Company, Moor Beer and Lost & Grounded.

Up-and-coming Finnish producer Pyynikin Craft Brewery will be there, as will world-famous Paulaner, Kona Brewing Co. and Budweiser Budvar.

For non-alcohol drinkers, Lucky Saint will supply 'an alcohol-free beer worth drinking'.

A recent event hosted by Cloudwater in the same venue was unexpectedly shut down due to licensing issues, but We Are Lager has everything in place for the event to run without a hitch.

Of course, it's not a Manchester beer festival without a smattering of street food, and We Are Lager's curated some of the best in Manchester for next weekend.

There'll be dim sum from Dim Sum Su, Mexican street food from El Taquero, macaroni cheese from Mac Shac, and burgers, BBQ and wings from Urmston's Get Chucked.

Altrincham's Off The Wheaten Track will provide coffee and dessert.

People are being told to stop washing their jeans, but not everyone agrees

All of the street food traders taking part will be providing lager pairings for their dishes.

If beer's not your bag, there will be a dedicated gin bar in Upper Campfield Market, plus wine, prosecco and a range of soft drinks.

Entertainment (other than boozing) will come from a line-up of 15 DJs, curated by Funkademia, Manchester's longest-running clubnight.

It will include sets from Everything Everything, Luke Unabomber of Electric Chair, and Funkademia V Girls on Film, plus Gareth Brooks from Hula, Chimp from Levelz, and Take Me To Church & Hattie Pearson.

Sunday will be a dedicated family day, with a relaxed vibe and child-friendly activities.

Jamie Scahill, co-founder of Manchester Union Brewery and We Are Lager, said: "It is really important to us that the event is fun and inclusive, so food, music and a great variety of other drinks are as important to us as the lager.

"Lager has had a bad reputation over the past 30 years and We Are Lager is aiming to change this by showcasing the best lager the world has to offer."

There are six sessions to choose from over the four-day event, with prices starting from £8.80 including booking fees.

Tickets are available from Skiddle and ticket prices include a limited-edition glass plus entry to the festival and a beer menu.
