The UK dog owners who look just like their pets

Just as Walt Disney believed, sometimes dogs can resemble their owners.

Talking in 101 Dalmatians, Pongo introduces the film with an observation about how dogs and their owners can look alike, and this latest contest is no exception.

Hundreds of dog-owners who think they look like their four-legged friends have entered a competition to become the UK's best dogpelganer - and now you can vote for the winner.

The competition showcases spitting image snaps, from matching hair colour and styles, to like-for-like beards, matching outfits and identical expressions.

Canine Cottages, who provide dog-friendly cottages, have whittled down the entries of their competition to a remaining 50 rivals.

Joe Caley, from Canine Cottages, said: "In a recent report featured by the BBC, research showed people are more likely to choose a dog that shares similar physical attributes to them.

But it's now up to the public to decide which of their final entries is most deserving of the title.

Here is a selection of shortlisted entries:

This welsh terrier has the same hair as his owner (Canine Cottages)
Phillip and Max are all about the freckles (Canine Cottages)
Charlie and dog Autumn take time out to relax (Canine Cottages)
Paul and Dandie are uncanny (Canine Cottages)
Lorren and Loki with their matching different coloured eyes (Canine Cottages)
Tara and her pooch are already in the Christmas spirit (Canine Cottages)

You can take a look at the full shortlist and vote for your favourite duo here.

Deadline for voting is 11.59pm on October 27, and the winner will receive £500 towards their next dog-friendly cottage holiday.

If you think you look like your furry canine, then you can reply to this story with a dogpelganger selfie on either our Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

"Here at Canine Cottages we like a challenge and wanted to see whether there’s any truth behind this theory - the response we have had is unbelievable!"
